CARIRI
During two different seasons in 2015, I visited the “Lajedo de Pai Mateus”, a rock formation, and its surrounding areas in Cariri, in the state of Paraíba, Brazil. In the winter, the sky was overcast with heavy clouds that did not bring any rain while in the summer the light was immense, known as the "great light" of the “sertao”, the outback. Known as a land where "the people suffer, but not in despair and seeks to win" (-Assaré), with all the difficulties present, people find a way to produce music, trade and crafts, create drought-fighting alternatives and to sustain, as much as the nature around them.
